Crossbreeding to create so-called “designer dogs” often emphasizes size and appearance. Not so with the Labradoodle. It’s a delightful cross between a Standard Poodle and a Labrador that was bred to be a crackerjack canine companion and service dog.

Labradoodles have much to recommend them. There’s no doggy odor to speak of, even when the dogs are sopping wet. They shed very little, making them favorites with those prone to allergies. Temperamentally, they’re energetic, eager to please, affectionate, and intelligent. They make wonderful guide dogs.

On the downside, Labradoodles require a lot of time and attention, so potential owners should be prepared for a variety of playtime activities and brisk, daily walks.
